Late Summer · iOS development in Brooklyn

Your iPhone app,
from idea to App Store

I'm Trevor Beaton, an iOS developer featured by Apple. I have spent 7+ years shipping iPhone and iPad apps at Adafruit, from Bluetooth tools to augmented reality. Late Summer is my studio for client apps, my own apps, and games.

  • Featured on Apple's website
  • WWDC 2019 and 2020
  • 6+ apps in the App Store
PyLeap, which I lead at Adafruit, sends code from an iPhone to a circuit board over Bluetooth.

The problem

A good app idea usually stalls between the prototype and the App Store

Native code, hardware that misbehaves, and App Store review are where projects lose months. I have worked through all three on real products, so your app gets built the way Apple expects and goes all the way to launch.

What you get

Native apps, built to ship

An app that feels at home on iPhone

Written in Swift and SwiftUI with Apple's own frameworks, so it looks right, runs fast, and keeps up with new iOS releases.

Proof: Swift Playgrounds for Bluefruit was featured on Apple's website.

Hardware that actually connects

Bluetooth and WiFi links to boards, sensors, and smart home gear, tested on the real device rather than a simulator.

Proof: PyLeap, Bluefruit Playground, File Glider, and itsaSNAP.

Augmented reality that is useful

ARKit and Core ML that recognize what the camera sees and put the right information on top of it.

Proof: Materia AR overlays pinouts on circuit boards.

A real launch, not just a build

Submission, review, and release are part of the work. You end with an app people can download.

Proof: 6+ production apps shipped to the App Store.

Built with care in Brooklyn,
shipped to your pocket.

How it works

Three steps from idea to App Store

  1. Tell me about the app

Email what it should do, who it is for, and any hardware involved. Sketches and screenshots help.

  2. Agree on a first version

We pick the smallest version worth shipping, so you see a working build early instead of a long spec.

  3. Build, test, and launch

I build it, test it on real devices, and take it through App Store review to release.

Work

Apps I have shipped

Built at Adafruit Industries, where I lead the mobile team.

PyLeap

Download code and send it to Adafruit boards over Bluetooth or WiFi. I am the lead mobile developer.

My tutorials on Adafruit Learn

Late Summer Studio

My own apps and games

Late Summer is my independent studio, built around craft, simplicity, and play.

Materia AR

Point your camera at a circuit board and see its pinout on top of it. AR and AI recognize the board instantly.

Treadly

Heart rate training for balanced cardio: steps, Zone 2, and Zone 5 workouts based on the Norwegian 4×4 protocol.

Fair Dialogue

An AI dispute resolver that helps two sides talk it through.

Games

Original games are in development. More soon.

About

Brooklyn developer, husband, and dad

I joined Adafruit as a part time fabricator and grew into its Senior iOS Developer. My focus is tools that make coding more accessible, especially with CircuitPython. Lately I am deep into augmented reality, computational design, and computer graphics. A proud moment: appearing in Apple's Platforms State of the Union in 2020 with my daughter, then five weeks old.

FAQ

Questions people ask first

What kind of apps do you build?

Native apps for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, written in Swift and SwiftUI. I have shipped 6+ production apps to the App Store.

Can you connect an app to hardware?

Yes. Most of my work at Adafruit talks to real devices over Bluetooth and WiFi, including PyLeap, Bluefruit Playground, and File Glider.

Do you build augmented reality apps?

Yes. Materia AR recognizes circuit boards and overlays their pinouts, and Adafruit AR uses ARKit image tracking with Core ML.

Will you help get the app into the App Store?

Yes. Submission and review are part of the job, not an extra. Every app on this page went through it.

Do you make games?

Yes. Original games are in development at Late Summer. They are not announced yet.

Where are you based?

Brooklyn, New York.
